Max Olper

Il Metodico

Max was born in Milan, Italy. He’s always been passionate about music and eclectic stuff in general. He studied law for one year at a public university as his family wanted him, but after one year, he realized that it wasn’t his path and began a communication degree against his family’s vision, where he graduated at the end of 2011. At the time, his cousin had just opened a gelato shop in Sao Paulo, and Max felt a solid passion for that project without knowing anything about it. “I didn’t know what it was, but it just felt like an enormous opportunity to me, and I also had a strong inner confidence coming from this venture; at the time. Despite, never having been to Brazil, nor being much of a well-traveled person in general. At that time, I didn’t even know my cousin very well!” After earning his degree, Max made the move to San Paolo, Brazil in January od 2012. By 2017, the team he was part of opened many shops in Brazil until a possibility to open in LA came up, and Max eagerly volunteered himself to move to California, where he would work to recreate what had been building in Brazil. “With California and the US, I had another gut instinct.” “Looking back, it was the right choice to end in a place that healed and improved my spirituality.” He moved permanently to Los Angeles in 2018. Since then, he has lived in Venice, building and expanding the company in California.

What do you do in your life (work and fun)?

I’m responsible and partner for Bacio di Latte in the US market.
My work is my passion, my fun, and identity; working is part of who I am.
Being part of and putting together a great team of believers and building a company is fantastic. There is a lot of work to be done, but it’s very rewarding and most of the time fun!
Besides that, in my free time, I do CrossFit every morning. I also run by the sea, it’s a phenomenal location. On Sundays, I have a group of friends at the beach in Venice, where we play volleyball very competitively. I love this group of people from all the US and around the world. That moment at the beach encapsulates the spirit of this state.

What made you leave Italy and chose Los Angeles?

Scared to become who I already was. Italy probably has the best lifestyle anyone could have. It’s mostly a country “built” to be enjoyed, with its pros and cons. The cons are that the system is very bureaucratic and has limited opportunities for the few who want to enjoy less and hustle more. We definitely have our version of the American Dream but, in a different perspective.

Please share your best memory in the City.

My best memory in the city was early on when I moved to LA. I knew very little about California, Los Angeles, and America. We ended up renting a place for a short period of time in Santa Monica Canyon, across the street from the ocean and in the middle of nature. It was absurd how California could offer so much nature and landscaping simultaneously. So much VARIETY of nature and also culture in general.

What made you choose this specific location and outfit?

The location I chose is the place that brought me here. That is where we opened the first shop here in LA, called Westfield Century City. When I came here in 2017, this mall was being remodeled, and now it’s a unique open mall in one of the best parts of LA. I say one because LA has many charming neighborhoods, and we can say there are many cities at once. I’m wearing black pants and a white shirt; this outfit represents my persona. I like to dress in a way that can be worn for every occasion: work, party, dinner, meeting, etc. It’s minimalist and exceptionally curated but looks simple from the outside. I would say jeans and a T-shirt like fish and chips, but the best fish and chips you can ever have.

Your thoughts about this project, ITALIANY.US

It’s a great project where everyone reading this story can understand many things about Italians. We have many stories to share on our belt, and one big chunk is the immigration spirit we have in our blood. Shout out to Alexo; he is capturing a vast mix collection of Italian beauty and leaving it accessible to the whole world.

How would you describe being an ambassador of the Italian style/culture abroad?

Being born in Italy is a blessing. We are the most beloved people on the planet in everyone’s eyes. Everywhere we go, I notice that people around the world love and have great affection and love for Italians and Italy. Italy is probably the first place everyone plans to go abroad. I believe our main mission is to protect and preserve this love because it is a huge advantage and opportunity. From the moment we leave our country, we like it or not, we’re all ambassadors, and we need to be aware of how lucky we are to have been born in Italy.
