Issue #64

Elena Nascimbeni Ferran

La Dottoressa

I was born in Italy. I grew up in Rome, in a wonderful and magic neighborhood: Monteverde Vecchio. I recognized since age 6 my passion for helping others and I thought of doing something in my life to protect and help the defenseless and to give to the one in need. So I decided to be a physician. But my passion was also to travel, learn foreign languages, cultures and to dance (I will be a modern dancer in a different life). So once finished Medical School I transferred here. NYC has given me the possibility to make my dreams come true. This city welcomed me and I have finished 3 fellowships: Internal Medicine, Gastroenterology and Hepatology and I have been practicing gastroenterology for many years. I have 2 amazing sons who feel citizens of the world, as well as Italians and Americans.

What do you do in your life (work and fun)?

Physician, I am a Gastroenterologist at New York University For fun? I like to discover new places and new people in NYC, go out to the Hamptons, travel, if possible to exotic places.

What made you leave Italy and chose NYC?

I wanted to learn medicine in a place where there is direct guidance and room to grow and be recognized, which was possible in all USA but I love the energy of NYC, so here I am.

Please share your best memory in the City.

The day I graduated from my residency. The day I moved in the house in the Hamptons. Living the loft and the downtown life of NYC. The day my older son choose to study philosophy. The day my younger son choose to learn how to farm

What made you choose this specific location and outfit?

Alexo proposed the location for its architectonic value and I liked it, and I recently participated to the “diner en blanc” there! So that mixed again my love for serious and fun moments in life. The outfit? Well, black is always right in NYC, isn t it?

Your thought about this project, ITALIANY.US

Wonderful! I feel it is a great compliment to the new generation of Italians abroad and it can be inspiring.

How would you describe being an ambassador of the italian style/culture abroad?

I think I represent the hard working Italian, committed, full of initiative. At the same time I love fashion, fun, laugh and kindness.
